Materials of the disposable face masks:
- Outer Layer: The outermost layer of a 3-ply face mask is made from a hydrophobic non-woven material, usually polypropylene. This layer is designed to repel water, blood, and other bodily fluids, preventing them from reaching the wearer’s mouth and nose. The outer layer also protects against larger particles and droplets in the air.
- Middle Layer: The middle layer is the most critical component of the mask, serving as the primary filter. It is often made from melt-blown material, which is a type of polypropylene that has been processed into a dense network of fine fibers. This layer can filter out smaller particles, including bacteria and viruses, thereby preventing them from being inhaled or exhaled by the wearer.
- Inner Layer: The innermost layer of the mask is made from a soft, absorbent non-woven material, such as spunbond polypropylene. This layer is designed to absorb moisture, such as saliva and nasal discharge, from the wearer. It also provides comfort, making the mask easier to wear for extended periods.
The standards for 3-ply face masks can vary by country and intended use (medical vs. general use). Here are some common standards for medical masks:
- United States: ASTM F2100. This standard classifies masks into three levels (1, 2, 3) based on resistance to fluids, bacterial filtration efficiency, particulate filtration efficiency, breathability, and flammability.
- European Union: EN 14683. This standard also classifies masks into three types (Type I, Type II, Type IIR) based on bacterial filtration efficiency, breathability, and splash resistance (for Type IIR only).
- 중국: YY/T 0969 (for single-use medical face mask), YY 0469 (for surgical mask). These standards specify requirements for materials, design, performance metrics, test methods, and labeling.
- Australia/New Zealand: AS/NZS 4381. This standard classifies masks into three levels based on resistance to fluids and bacterial filtration efficiency.
- Japan: JIS T 8151. This standard provides a guideline for the materials, structure, efficacy and safety of the disposable mask.
- Canada: ASTM F2100 and/or CAN/CSA-Z94.4 (for respirators).
Please note that standards can be updated over time, and different standards may apply for different types of masks (e.g., respirators vs. surgical masks). Always check with the relevant regulatory body for the most up-to-date standards.
Instructions for Use:
- Before Putting on the Mask: Ensure your hands are clean. Wash with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before handling the mask.
- How to Put on the Mask: Remove a mask from the box and make sure there are no obvious tears or holes in either side of the mask. Determine which side of the mask is the top. The side of the mask that has a stiff bendable edge is the top and is meant to mold to the shape of your nose. Hold the mask by the ear loops. Place a loop around each ear.
- Mould or Pinch the Stiff Edge to the Shape of Your Nose: If the mask has a top and bottom, make sure the mask is facing the correct way before donning it.
- Cover Your Mouth and Nose with the Mask: Make sure the bottom of the mask covers your chin.
- After Use: Remove the mask by the ear loops without touching the front of the mask. Discard it immediately in a closed bin and clean your hands again.
