The “Miracle” of Bedridden Patient Care – A Must-Have for Medical Staff: Disposable Patient Transfer Pads

Table of Contents

Introduction

Transferring critically ill patients during clinical treatment has traditionally been a laborious task. Patients often have difficulty getting up for treatments and examinations in different departments, complicating clinical care and even leading to the dislodgement of tubes in some intubated patients due to movement.

Long-term bedridden patients, due to reduced physical activity and weakened immune functions, are prone to complications such as pressure sores, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary infections, and urinary system infections. Implementing standardized and effective nursing measures can prevent and reduce the occurrence of these complications.

After extensive clinical nursing practice, taking into account the needs of medical staff and patient experiences, disposable patient transfer pads were developed.

Uses of Disposable Patient Transfer Pads

Disposable patient transfer pads are used for moving critical patients to minimize injury during transfer, including bed-to-bed movements.

These transfer pads are widely applicable in various departments such as emergency rooms, CT rooms, X-ray rooms, ICUs, operating rooms, orthopedics, surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, rehabilitation rooms, etc. They are used by medical personnel for assistance during patient transfer, side-lying, and cleaning. Disposable patient transfer pads are extensively used in outdoor first aid, nursing homes, and home care.

Advantages of Disposable Patient Transfer Pads

  1. Efficiency and Ease: Only 1-2 people are needed to transfer a patient over a bed with a transfer pad, replacing the 4-5 people previously required, saving time and significantly reducing the physical strain on medical staff.
  2. Patient Stability: The “patient-still” method allows for the safe and smooth transfer of patients with fractures, post-operative pain, or post-operative drainage tubes without needing to move or touch them directly.
  3. Injury Prevention: Traditional carrying methods often cause discomfort or even injury to patients due to improper handling. Disposable patient transfer pads allow for a holistic bed transfer, avoiding secondary injuries and ensuring a comfortable and smooth transition.

How to Use Disposable Patient Transfer Pads

  1. Placement: Lay the transfer pad down with the plastic film side facing down, spreading it out so that the handles on either side are under the patient’s shoulders and buttocks.
  2. Lay a Barrier Sheet and Nursing Pad: A barrier sheet can effectively block bacteria, isolate, and prevent contamination. A nursing pad can block seepage and absorb blood and bodily fluids.
  3. Transferring the Patient: With the patient lying on the transfer pad, align the transfer cart with the operating table at the same height, then pull the pad’s handles to smoothly transfer the patient onto the cart.
  4. Post-Treatment Transfer: After treatment or examination, return the patient to their room by aligning the transfer cart with the bed at the same height, then pull the pad’s handles to transfer the patient back to the bed.
  5. Removal: Once the patient’s condition allows for movement, rotate their body to remove the transfer pad and its components.

The disposable patient transfer pads produced by Wuhan Youfu feature a bilateral, dual-handle design, aiding medical personnel in easily moving patients to a cart or another bed based on the patient’s condition.

The patient transfer pads made by Wuhan Youfu have a simple structure, are lightweight and easy to operate, allowing medical personnel to easily move patients using the principle of sliding. With the optional protective cover, barrier sheet, and absorbent pad, these pads facilitate isolation and infection protection after patient transfer.
